En un piso antiguo, en torno a una mesa, bajo una lámpara, cuatro hombres, un barbero, un enterrador, un actor y un profesor de matemáticas juegan una partida de cartas. Este piso es un refugio en el que se aceptan todos los fracasos, se permiten. El fracaso es la regla, no la excepción. El dinero ha desaparecido, también cualquier posibilidad de éxito personal. A punto de tocar fondo, los cuatro personajes deciden arriesgarse. En este momento el juego se vuelve peligroso.
