En una calurosa noche de verano, se celebra el cumpleaños y supuesta buena salud del multimillonario PapaGrande. En esta desintegrada familia Maggie, esposa de Brick (hijo favorito de PapaGrande), lucha contra Gooper (hermano mayor de Brick) y su esposa Mae, por la herencia de PapaGrande, quien sin saberlo está muriendo de cáncer. Brick, atormentado por el suicidio de su mejor amigo Skipper, se ha vuelto alcohólico y rechaza a Maggie, a la herencia, a todos. Esa noche, PapaGrande al sentirse “sano” confronta a su esposa MamaGrande para que no sienta que puede sustituirlo y a Brick por su alcoholismo. Finalmente Brick le dice la verdad a PapaGrande sobre su enfermedad y Maggie le hace creer que está embarazada, dándole en medio de todo una razón para heredarle todo a su hijo favorito.

On a hot summer night, the birthday and technically good health of PapaGrande is being celebrated. In this broken family, Maggie, Brick’s wife (PapaGrande’s favourite son) fights with Gooper (Brick’s older brother) and his wife Mae for PapaGrandes inheritance, who is unaware that he has terminal cancer. Brick, tormented with his best friend Skipper’s suicide, is now an alcoholic, rejects Maggie, the inheritance and everyone else. PapaGrande, feeling healthy confronts MamaGrande about replacing him and Brick about his drinking problems. Finally Brick tells his father the truth about his illness and Maggie makes everyone think she’s pregnant, giving him a reason to leave everything to his favourite son.
